7 Things I Learned in December

  1. You can make candles by melting bayberries. (This interesting fact came from a Christmas picture book by Tomie de Paola.)

2. “Allopathic” is a term for modern Western medicine (as opposed to alternatives like homeopathy or osteopathic medicine).

3. In art history a “notname” is “an invented name given to an artist whose identity has been lost.”

4. “Gen Alpha” refers to the generation born approximately between 2010 and 2024. (Apparently, Gen Beta is next!)

5. Before Newfoundland joined Confederation the colony had its own currency and the smallest coins were nicknamed “herring scales.”

6. The words of Psalm 121 are traditionally posted in labour and delivery rooms of Jewish mothers.

7. John Tyler, the tenth U.S president (1790-1862), has a grandson who is still living!

Which reminds me of this song that I love way more than is normal!
