Notable events of the past month were packing up for a month away (house-sitting in Ogdensburg, NY), Malcolm breaking his leg, and starting the new school year. Busy times!
Read
My book reading dropped off in August (but so did my TV watching). I enjoyed Old Books, Rare Friends and also Real Simple and WORLD magazines. I should have a few more books to share at the end of September. For now, here’s a cute picture book: The Wonderful Habits of Rabbits.
Eat
- Andrew and I went to Minh’s in Owen Sound for Vietnamese cuisine; food and service were excellent and the restaurant has a great view of the water.
- The Asian Buffet in Ogdensburg was another treat; the kids loved it.
- When we see Andrew’s parents we usually have Stewart’s ice cream (shout out to Peanut Butter Pandemonium and Brew-Ha-Ha — there all sorts of limited edition flavours too).
- I experimented with an Instant Pot for the first time and made some great beans; I still want to perfect mac and cheese and oatmeal.
- I made this potato salad twice last week.
- Malcolm’s treat request while at the hospital to be x-rayed was a jelly doughnut. Andrew later picked up not one but a dozen fancy doughnuts from SuzyQ (two of my favourites were Raspberry Cassis and S’mores).
Do
- While the girls were visiting my parents, we took the boys to Keady Market. They weren’t too impressed by the livestock, but we did buy a broccoli almost the size of Tristan.
- It was our second year staying at Wesley Acres with Andrew’s family. This time the camp provided the food, which was convenient and tasty. We did softball, kites, bocce, the beach… (I missed some activities due to napping!)
- We also stayed overnight at an Airbnb near Potsdam, NY owned by friends of Andrew. They have a campsite on their farm with two A-frames with two single beds in each, a big fire pit, an outdoor shower, and a screened gazebo with camp stove and cooking supplies. They have such a nice setup with special details like a map of the property, nature scavenger hunt, and s’mores kit. I highly recommend staying there!

Meditate
“‘Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for behold, I come and I will dwell in your midst, declares the Lord. And many nations shall join themselves to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people. And I will dwell in your midst, and you shall know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you. And the Lord will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem.’ Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord, for he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.” – Zechariah 2:10-13
