Here are five assorted things that I learned recently. Maybe you could share the most interesting or surprising fact you came across.
- A portobello mushroom is just a mature white/button/cremini mushroom (Agaricus bisporus)!
2. The potted plant you probably call a geranium is actually a pelargonium, not a true geranium (though both belong to the Geraniaceae family).
3. A wendigo is an evil cannibalistic spirit from Native American mythology.
4. Joe Magarac is another folklore character we encountered in this book; he is said to be made of steel and was able to work nonstop in the Pittsburgh steel mills until he melted himself down to help make a new mill.
5. Cream of coconut is not the same as coconut cream. It’s an extremely sweet ingredient for cocktails; you can make your own with this recipe.
