I procrastinated on this blog post, but as usual putting it together made me look back fondly on the last month, as well as providing a record for future reference. I hope you enjoy it too.
Read
In November, I finished reading and discussing Risen Motherhood with a biweekly online group; I think it’s an excellent book for Christian mothers: grounded in the Gospel with practical application.
For novels, I recommend The Man Who Died Twice and (of course) The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
We borrowed a lot of excellent picture books from the library this month. Check out: Little Hoot, I Am a Story, In My Garden, The Sleepy Book, Anansi the Spider, Dinosnores, Harry and the Lady Next Door, and Circle Under Berry!
If your kids love The Magic Tree House series, here’s a checklist of all the titles (it has one mistake…).
Eat
Here’s my monthly Smitten Kitchen update: I made baked oatmeal with caramelized pears and vanilla cream; granola biscotti; bacony baked pintos; and sizzling beef bulgogi tacos. Can you believe I haven’t gotten into the desserts yet?!
My kids love looking at cookbooks. This month we made spaghetti and meatballs out of this book from America’s Test Kitchen.
Clementine season! Enough said.
Do
One of my favourite things to do lately is take long walks, either talking to my sister on the phone, with a friend so we can catch up in person, or with one of my daughters. I have spent hours walking up and down the streets of Owen Sound and this winter I will try my hardest to keep it up, even when I don’t want to go outside.
I’m grateful that I was able to spend some quality time with different friends and relatives in November: afternoon tea, a Schole Sisters retreat, a birthday party, and a church potluck.
Buy
I’m only slightly worried about my new online shopping habit. I’ve ordered Christmas cards, photobooks, tea, toiletries, underwear, and books. I’ve also been thrifting for puzzles, books, decor, picture frames, and birthday/Christmas presents. At least I’m quite good at sticking to sales!
Meditate
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
– 2 Corinthians 12:9
How were the tacos? I’ve been looking for beef bulgogi recipes, after eating in TO with Peter and Ingrid.
They were tasty, but used ground beef. For a Korean beef marinade I liked this: https://www.recipetineats.com/korean-bbq-marinated-beef-short-ribs-galbi/ In fact maybe I will use it again next week, since I have some stirfry beef in the fridge!
