Favourite Things: March Edition

We got out of the house more in March, which was lovely. If you’re wondering, here’s what we’ve been up to…

Read

Two highly recommended works of practical nonfiction that I read were Teaching from Rest and The Tech-Wise Family. (I also reread Do More Better.)

As for fiction, Perfect Little World is perfect for book club discussion and I’m hoping to finish The Two Towers today or tomorrow.

Our readalouds (besides schoolbooks) were The Indian in the Cupboard and The 101 Dalmatians, both childhood favourites I wanted to share with the kids. Not to mention Anne of Green Gables, which we are currently listening to… so good.

Eat

Without a doubt these cactus cupcakes were our most adventurous culinary endeavor in March (from this cookbook).

Do

Regardless of the public school schedule, we took March Break in the middle of the month and visited my parents. Highlights were walking in the woods, throwing pinecones in the river, playing with cousins, feeding the chickens, building with K’nex, and making plaster casts of dogs.

At the end of the week we spent a morning at The Bruce Museum. The lower level was great for the kids, with exhibits on trains, a War of 1812 ship, and a general store.

When the weather was nice we headed to Harrison Park (two days in a row) to visit the birds, walk to a waterfall, and enjoy the playground.

Meditate
