Favourite Things: June Edition

I must admit to losing steam for my blog and newsletter lately, but regardless here’s what I’ve been up to in June.

Read

I read a few novels that I found enjoyable but not amazing.

I read a fascinating memoir, Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness.

I am very close to finishing Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln.

I finished two classic readalouds, Ramona and Her Mother and Farmer Boy.

Eat

Our CSA (vegetable share) started up for the season, we continue to barbecue often, I bottled my first batch of kombucha, and we baked a rhubarb pie and koala cupcakes.

Watch

As a change from food shows we’ve been watching a British show that highlights unusual architecture, Grand Designs: House of the Year. I find that I often like the interiors of the homes, particularly all the natural light, but the exteriors are usually not my cup of tea.

Do

Highlights of June:

  • Our church reopened!
  • The library finally has curbside pickup!
  • I took the kids to visit my parents!

(Downsides of June: we found maggots in our garbage can, our car battery died, I lost my phone, and I took a kid to the ER because she cut the roof of her mouth)

Meditate

“When you reap your harvest in your field and forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it. It shall be for the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. When you beat your olive trees, you shall not go over them again. It shall be for the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow. When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not strip it afterward. It shall be for the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow. You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore I command you to do this.” -Deuteronomy 24:19-22

It’s nice to read something that is compelling and mind-boggling (and not literary) once in a while. I mainly listened to the audiobook (until I lost my phone and had to finish on paper… thankfully I have my Libby app back now for audiobooks and ebooks).
