Looking back at my calendar and photos of the past year, I ended up with more “firsts” of 2019 than I expected. Here’s what I did.
- Vacationed without our kids (flew to Charleston, SC)
2. Sipped sherry (at this fancy hotel)
3. Ate softshell crab
4. Made a cupcake cake
5. Took my kids to the dentist
6. Joined a CSA and a local food co-op
7. Made a banana split ice cream cake
8. Saw my great-grandparents’ former general store and home in Bayfield, Ontario
9. Had my hair cut (with layers) by a friend
10. Helped my oldest learn to ride a bike
11. Made strawberry pancakes
12. Took five offers to buy a house!
13. Baked a giant cinnamon bun
14. Walked around a labyrinth
15. Officially started homeschooling
16. Had a house warming (with outdoor activities for the kids)
17. Stopped at The Big Apple
18. Coloured sugar cookie dough with food colouring
19. Bought a family membership to the Grey Roots Museum and Archives
20. Created two beautiful charcuterie boards (step-by-step instructions here)
21. Made a Jeopardy game
22. Hosted my family for Christmas dinner and overnight
23. Organized a mystery book exchange
A few other “firsts” without photo evidence were volunteering for the Grey Bruce Pregnancy Centre, grinding wheat into flour, visiting the Tom Thomson Art Gallery, and attending monthly dinners put on by our local community association.
1st of all, Margaret, I loved your year in pictures! Would love to try some strawberry pancakes! Also your banana split cake looked very appealing! Sounds like you have many enjoyable things to do while home schooling. It’s nice to have those opportunities that you would not have if your kids were in traditional schools. My favorite thing this past year it was hosting our family reunion here. You are a very good writer and have broadened my horizons!
Thanks for your comment, Mary. It’s nice to be appreciated!
Sp good to see all the amazing things you did. What a year!
