Historical Highlights 192

This week’s list of historical highlights might not be extensive but it has some topics that I’d love to delve into further, like Leonardo da Vinci’s artistic techniques and John Coffer’s photography camp. Read on.

I’d love to attend this huge exhibit commemorating the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death, and these ways da Vinci was ahead of his time are really interesting. (See also: my review of picture books about da Vinci)

It’s fun to see what kids were reading 100 years ago, during the first Children’s Book Week.

Starting June 4 the Library of Congress is hosting an exhibit on women’s suffrage.

This browser extension (available for Chrome and Firefox) shows you which Amazon books are available through your local library (it can even search Hoopla and Overdrive for digital versions).

Did you know that in the 1990s in-line skates caused quite a stir?

I’m fascinated by this man who teaches wet-plate photography (first introduced in 1851) on his 50-acre homestead.

Another fun topic: literary forgeries in early modern Europe.

I hope you enjoy your weekend.
