When I look back over the past month I realize that it was pretty interesting! Here are a few things that I learned. (When you’re done reading head over to Emily P. Freeman’s quarterly link-up to read her list plus posts by other bloggers.)
- Bran muffins are still edible if you forget the sugar. (I did remember the molasses and raisins.)
2. Burt’s Bees just launched a full line of cosmetics.
3. Marijuana is herbal cannabis, while hashish is cannabis resin. (Maybe I should have known this already, but I finally got it straight in my head after reading The Gabriel Hounds by Mary Stewart, which is set in the Middle East.)
4. You can fix chocolate that has separated (e.g. by microwaving chocolate fondue for too long) by adding a little boiling water. Useful, right?
5. I also learned to fix my KitchenAid mixer by studying diagrams, watching YouTube videos, and raiding my husband’s toolbox.
7. Maldon sea salt comes from a specific family-owned saltworks in southeast England.
8. In Apartheid South Africa Chinese people were classified as “Coloured,” while Japanese people were classified as “White.”
(I learned this and so much more from Born a Crime, which I recommended in this post.)
9. In Virginia you can start planting your garden (outside!) in February.
Yay my garden! Someone I follow on Instagram just picked strawberries in Orlando.
I am extremely impressed that you repaired your kitchen aid!
A thing I learned in February: a vole = a field mouse, which is different from a house mouse.
