Since it was a holiday today we decided to go out for lunch and then visit the Military Museums of Calgary with a friend from church, who fought in Vietnam. Turned out the museums had a discount on admission and also special activities.
The galleries of the Military Museums are full of information, quotations, dioramas, models, and videos. It’s a great place to learn about Canada’s military through history, including the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry, the Calgary Highlanders, Lord Strathcona’s Horse, the Royal Canadian Air Force, and more.
Even though our kids are too young to take everything in (who am I kidding, there’s more than anyone could take in in one visit!), we all enjoyed spending the afternoon there. The kids had fun trying on different military uniforms.
They also made their own “medals” out of paper, fabric, and sequins.
Eleanor even completed a scavenger hunt that involved finding answers in all the galleries. (The kids were pretty pleased with the lollipops they got as a prize.)
If you’re in Calgary I definitely recommend a visit to the Military Museums. You’ll learn about Canada’s involvement in wars and peacekeeping efforts and honour the sacrifices made by many brave Canadians.
Eleanor’s completed scavenger hunt page is very impressive!
I thought so too!
