In honour of Victoria Day I decided to put together a list of Queen Victoria’s nine children with pictures. I love seeing their full names and noting how they married into most of the royal families of Europe. No wonder Victoria was nicknamed “the grandmother of Europe”!
1. Victoria Adelaide Mary, Princess Royal
- Married Frederick III of Germany
- Children include Wilhelm II, German Emperor and King of Prussia, and Sophia, Queen of Greece
2. Albert Edward (King Edward VII)
- Married Princess Alexandra of Denmark
- Children include King George V of England and Maud, Queen of Norway
3. Alice Maud Mary
- Married Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse
- Children include Alexandra, Princess of Russia
4. Alfred Ernest Albert, Duke of Edinburgh and of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha
- Married Marie Alexandrovna, Grand Duchess of Russia
- Children include Marie, Queen of Romania
5. Helena Augusta Victoria
- Married Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein
6. Louise Caroline Alberta
- Married John Campbell, Duke of Argyll, Marquis of Lorne
7. Arthur William Patrick, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn
- Married Duchess Louise Margaret of Prussia
8. Leopold George Duncan, Duke of Albany
- Married Princess Helena Frederica of Waldeck and Pyrmont
9. Beatrice Mary Victoria
- Married Prince Henry of Battenberg
- Children include Victoria Eugenie, Queen of Spain
What a prodigious family. 🙂
Fun! I don’t think I’d ever seen pictures of them as adults.
The second child actually became Edward vii, not viii who was the Edward who abdicated for the woman he loved ( and had a miserable life after that)
An amazing family tree certainly.
Oops, thanks for correcting me! I made the change.
They’re a motley looking crew, aren’t they?!
this was very helpful
